Q&A

Q. Do you have a rescheduling or cancellation policy?

Yes, we do.  When reserving an appointment time online, you pay a $25 deposit.  You have 24 hours prior to the start time to cancel or reschedule the appointment.  If you fail to cancel or have a "no show", out of respect for the practitioner/s time, you will be charged a fee of $25.  If you did not pay a deposit, you will be billed $25.  The practitioner's time is valuable and without that advance notice, they cannot fill that appointment time slot to make up for the loss.

We do know there may be occasions of emergency, in those circumstances, the therapist can choose to waive the fee.

Q. What are some benefits of massage therapy?

Massage is a restorative practice that can mend the mind/body/spirit connection.  The mind is calmed and relaxed, enhancing focus and improving concentration, which can allow the mind to be more creative and productive.  As your mind is made aware of your body through massage, it can more readily recognize your body's needs.  Massage also fulfills the body's need for touch, and thus can improve emotional well-being by allowing the person to feel cared for and nurtured.

Massage can help remove pain in the body by stimulating the release of endorphins - the body's feel-good hormone.  Among the other myriad of benefits, massage loosens tight or sore muscles, decreases stress, lowers blood pressure, allows you to breathe easier, lessens anxiety, fights depression, improves circulation, rejuvenates skin, boosts immunity, and improves flexibility, and posture.

Q. Do you offer Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep tissue massage as a full session is not currently offered.  It is incorporated where needed into a regular session and silicone cups for assisting in deeper tissue work are used, if wanted.

Q. Do I have to book an appointment?

Yes, all appointments must be scheduled in advance.  This is due to minimal staffing.  Book on the Homepage or call or email (see Contact page).

Q. When should I arrive for my appointment?

We recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to help you unwind prior to your appointment start time.  It is a good idea to use the restroom prior to your appointment and to go over your intake form if it's your first visit.

Q. What if I arrive later than my appointment start time?

If you arrive late, your session time will still end at the scheduled time to avoid delaying our next client who scheduled behind you.  The original appointment fee will still be charged.

Q. Should I tip?

Gratuity is accepted for all appointments or events, but it is not expected.  Feel free to tip according to the satisfaction of your experience.  By adding gratuity to your total, you are letting your therapist know that your wishes were met or even exceeded.

Q. What should I expect?

Prior to coming to your appointment, please drink plenty of water so you're well hydrated.  On your first visit, a brief intake form will need to be filled out to assess health concerns, this can be done online or in person.  This will help your therapist customize the services accordingly.

Massage:  Your therapist will ask you a few basic questions about areas of concern and then leave the room to allow you to undress to your comfort level and to lay beneath the sheet face up or face down.  Your therapist will communicate periodically during the session to ask your input on appropriate pressure on certain areas being worked.  We recommend drinking plenty of water after the appointment as well.

Q. What should I wear?

We recommend comfortable clothing that will help you feel relaxed as you prepare for your massage or reiki appointment.  We suggest long hair be pulled up out of the way and jewelry removed for massage to avoid creams or oils getting on them.  Jewelry can be worn during reiki if it is a natural metal or stone.

Q. Can I bring my cell phone?

It is okay to bring a cell phone into the therapy room, however, please be sure to turn off the ringer.  This is a courtesy to any other clients in a session and to you to have a relaxing undisturbed session.

Q. Can my children come with me?

It is advised that children do not come unless they are receiving a session themselves.  If a child is well behaved and can keep quiet during a session, they are welcome to sit in the room with you or in the front room.  The door will be locked for safety.

Q. Is there a time massage is not recommended?

Contraindications - we highly recommend our clients consult their physician if they have medical concerns.  We do not diagnose, and massage is not a substitute for medical treatments by a physician.

These restrictions are in place to protect your health and well-being, we appreciate you taking them as seriously as we do.

Types of contraindications:  (when massage should not be performed at all)  Fever, contagious or infectious diseases (including any cold or flu, no matter how mild it may seem), under the influence of drugs or alcohol (including prescription pain medication), recent operations or acute injuries, or skin diseases.  We would suggest trying a Reiki session instead for these conditions, it may be beneficial.

LOCAL:  when massage can be performed but not over the contraindicated areas.

We cannot massage areas affected by:  Varicose veins, undiagnosed lumps or bumps, pregnancy, bruising, cuts, abrasions, sunburn, undiagnosed pain, or inflammation (including arthritis).

MEDICAL:  when massage can only be performed once medical permission has been granted.  If you suffer from any of the following conditions, massage can only take place once it has been approved before your session in writing by your physician; any condition already being treated by a medical practitioner, cardiovascular conditions (thrombosis, phlebitis, hypertension, heart conditions, pacemakers), edema, psoriasis or eczema, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, cancer, nervous or psychological conditions, angina, epilepsy, diabetes, Bell's palsy, trapped or pinched nerves and gynecological infections.

Does a contraindication mean that treatment cannot take place?  Not always, massage can be very therapeutic for many medical conditions.  However, in the above cases, it is best to have advice from a physician.  Thank you for understanding.
